MONROE - The Alp and Dell cheese store will mark 25 years in business with an anniversary celebration to coincide with the Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival Friday through Sunday.
The celebration will feature Emmi Roth creamery tours, refreshments and door prizes. Emmi Roth is the main sponsor of the balloon festival.
The store is located at 657 2nd St. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The store was originally founded in 1992 and was purchased by Tony and Esther Zgraggens in 2009. The shop connects to the Emmi Roth cheese plant. Visitors can witness the Emmi Roth cheesemakers in action by walking from the cheese store into the viewing hall.
The store offers a selection of Roth cheeses, including the World Champion Roth Grand Cru Surchoix made in the adjacent Emmi Roth creamery, and well as other locally-produced cheese and sausages. Along with the local cheeses, Alp & Dell offers a selection of imported cheese from Emmi and other makers in Europe.
Emmi Roth is a subsidiary of Switzerland-based Emmi Group. Roth cheeses are hand crafted in Monroe, with milk from local dairy farms within 60 miles from the creamery.
