DARLINGTON - Long-time Lafayette County Board of Supervisors member Jack Alexander announced Friday he is resigning from the board.

Alexander, who lives in Benton, represents District 16.

He said in a written resignation dated Friday that his decision to resign from the board was not an easy one, but something he had to do. The resignation is effective immediately.

"I am now recovering from a fairly serious injury and this and another family medical situation are now limiting the amount of time I have available for county board activities," he said.

Alexander said the positive support from his constituents has always been greatly appreciated by him and his family.

Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley said the sheriff's department is grateful to Alexander for his leadership and service to the Lafayette County Law Enforcement Committee.

Alexander was not available for further comment Friday.
