MONROE - An Albany man died after his pickup truck crashed into a tree just east of Albany late Tuesday.
James L. Thompson, 64, was westbound in the W600 block of Bump Road at about 10:30 p.m. when the truck left the road and crashed into a tree, according to the Green County Sheriff's Office.
Albany EMS took Thompson to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where he was pronounced dead.
Lt. Paul Weichbrod said in a news release Wednesday that it's unknown if Thompson was wearing a seatbelt or if his airbags deployed "due to the vehicle starting on fire."
The Albany Police and Fire Departments assisted deputies at the crash scene.
This is Green County's fifth traffic fatality of 2015, less than a week after the fourth. Last Thursday, a Rockford man was killed when his SUV crashed head-on with a semi just north of Monticello.
