SUn PRAIRIE - A return trip to the Kohl Center and a chance to repeat as the state's Division 2 champions didn't look promising for the Monroe boys basketball team early in the fourth quarter Saturday.

The Cheesemakers trailed East Troy 47-39 with six and a half minutes left to play in their sectional championship game at Sun Prairie.

But, as they have done all season, the Cheesemakers found a way to win.

Tony Cates rebounded Mitch Tordoff's miss and scored with 2.2 seconds left to lift Monroe to a 54-53 victory that earned the Cheesemakers their third trip to the state tournament in the past four years.

They'll face New Berlin Eisenhower, a 52-49 winner over Brown Deer on Saturday, in a Division 2 semifinal on Friday. The winner of that game will face either Adams-Friendship or Plymouth in Saturday's championship game.
