A Place in History: Dr. John A. Schindler House • Monroe

MONROE - Dr. John A. Schindler, along with Dr. W.B. Gnagi, was one of the founders of Monroe Clinic in 1939.

Three years earlier, Schindler built his house, located at 532 22nd Ave. The home was built in the New England Colonial style and was known as "Windhaven."

Schindler was a graduate of New Glarus High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1931.

Schindler was a well-known author and lecturer. His radio broadcasts entitled "How to Live a Hundred Years Happily," were so well respected that the transcripts were printed and sold by the thousands. He later wrote a bestseller entitled "How to Live 365 Days a Year."

Schindler died in 1957.
