JUDA - For more than 100 years there has been a bank in Juda.

Today's bank, located at W9203 Main St., was not the first bank.

After the railroad came to Juda in 1857, people began to move into the village. Houses were built, churches were established, businesses began to appear and a school soon followed.

As with any small community, a bank was necessary to serve local residents.

The Bank of Juda was chartered in 1903. The first bank building was located to the west of the bank. A second bank was built a few years later due to a need for more room.

The second bank is located across the street to the north of the present Bank of Juda, which was built in 1977.

According to Don Zimmerman, president of the Bank of Juda, the second bank remains exactly the same, on the outside at least, as it was when it was used by the bank.

"They've probably painted it a few times," Zimmerman laughed.

The second bank is now used for apartments but it remains a reminder of Juda's earlier history.
