8th Street Update: Work focuses on water and sewer pipes

MONROE - Contractors focused on installing storm sewer and water main this week.

The 3rd Avenue intersection was closed Monday while crews installed water main and remained closed Monday night due to an overabundance of groundwater, but crews added pumps to complete the work by Tuesday afternoon.

Water main was then installed underneath Honey Creek, which completes the water main portion of the project. Storm sewer was installed from 1st Avenue to 4th Avenue West despite shallow bedrock in the area, which has slowed the installation process. A third crew set up materials and equipment to prepare for a culvert extension at Honey Creek.

Next week's focus will be constructing the box culvert at Honey Creek and installing storm sewer west of 1st Avenue. Crews will be building a box culvert at the north end of the existing culvert at Honey Creek, which will allow for a wider street with consistent lane widths and sidewalk along the north side of 8th Street.
