MONROE - The 8th Street project moved forward this week as crews installed storm sewer, tested water main and continued to build the box culvert at Honey Creek.

Storm sewer was installed from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue West with crews placing new inlets and underground concrete pipe. Water main that was installed under Honey Creek was pressure-tested with successful results. Crews were also busy working on the Honey Creek box culvert extension as they completed the first section of the culvert.

Culvert crews will continue to build the box culvert at Honey Creek as the side walls of the box are formed and poured. Additional storm sewer will be installed throughout next week, and excavation of the roadway will begin starting near the west end of the project and moving east. There will be side road closures as the crew works across the project. We will only close one intersection at a time and reopen as soon as possible.

A crew will be working Saturday morning to install storm sewer at the 6th Avenue West intersection. Although this intersection will remain open during construction, there may be some delay as materials are delivered and installed. Please be careful while driving past the large equipment.
