MONROE - Stage 1 paving was completed earlier this week with a lower layer of asphalt being placed along the south side of 8th Street. This pavement will serve as the traffic lanes for the upcoming Stage 2 work which will focus on the center lanes from Highway 69 to 71/2 Street. Topsoil and traffic procedures were scheduled for this week but with the large amount of rain, crews have been forced to hold off until Monday.

Contractors are scheduled to resume topsoil placement along the south side of 8th Street on Monday and seeding and restoration will follow. Traffic control adjustments are scheduled after the holiday and we should be transitioned into Stage 2 by the following week. It will be a short week as the crews will not be working on Tuesday due to the holiday.

There will be nighttime work during Stage 2 to complete necessary storm sewer and sanitary sewer improvements. Nighttime work is tentatively scheduled for July 12 and 13. During this time, 8th Street will be closed from Highway 69 to 71/2 Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The nighttime closure allows the work to be completed safely and efficiently while minimizing disruption to the many businesses and residents. The project team will continue to give schedule updates as we get closer to these dates.

Have a wonderful Fourth of July.
