MONROE - It was another busy yet productive week on the 8th Street project with multiple crews working throughout the site.
The roadway crew worked from 4th Avenue West to 1st Avenue removing old curb and sidewalk and replacing with road stone. While this operation was working east, concrete crews poured decorative stamped concrete along the south side of the roadway. These colored accents match the crosswalks throughout the downtown Square and add a touch of streetscape to the project. Crews formed and poured walls as part of the box culvert extension at Honey Creek while another crew installed storm sewer at 3rd Avenue, 4th Avenue West and in front of McDonald's.
Next week crews will work to install the top slab of the box culvert extension while roadway crews continue east removing old roadway and replacing with road stone. Concrete crews will follow pouring curb along the north side of the road starting on the west end. Storm crews will be on site adjusting manholes and inlets. The contractor will not be working Monday in observance of Labor Day.
As the project approaches its last month, the contractor has scheduled a public informational meeting for all residents and businesses located in the project area. Project managers encourage everyone affected to attend the meeting at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Behring Senior Center in the basement cafeteria at 1113 10th St.
