Why are you running?
I was raised with a strong belief in public service. That is why I have been involved in municipal government, volunteered on boards and found ways to work with my neighbors to improve our community.
Our state is at a crucial juncture. We are starting to see economic recovery, but not everyone is experiencing it yet. We will need careful budgeting to protect priorities while showing true fiscal restraint to protect taxpayers.
As a small business owner, I know about creating jobs, making payroll and taking care of the people you work with. I know what a struggle it can be to provide health insurance and how the state could help by creating purchasing pools. I want to create common sense policies that help middle class, working families and small businesses and build a solid economic future for our state.
Why should voters choose you over your opponent?
My background in business, accounting, volunteering and public service has me prepared to be your representative and get to work right away on the vital issues facing our community without any steep learning curve.
I have a strong desire to dedicate myself to the diverse challenges our state is confronting, from creating jobs and fostering stable economic development to supporting quality education, healthcare and infrastructure.
We need a representative who sides with middle class families and small businesses and supports tax fairness. As an accountant, I know an accounting gimmick when I see one, and locating a P.O. Box in another state to dodge Wisconsin taxes unfairly burdens the rest of us who live here and pay our taxes. I want to keep the so-called Las Vegas loophole closed and make giant corporations and insurance companies do the right thing.
What are the biggest issues facing your district?
My top priorities match the district's biggest issues: creating jobs, balancing the budget, protecting health care and providing quality education. For economic stability, we also need to increase revenue - and the best way to do that is to get people back to work.
Creating jobs is job number one.
And there is one more issue that I feel passionate about: renewable energy. When I served on the Water & Light Committee, Evansville became one of the first communities in our state to participate in the Focus on Energy program. Clean, renewable energy is good for our natural resources, good for our pocketbooks and it's a great source for future jobs that we need to keep right here in Wisconsin.
The best way to stay on top of all these issues is to stay in close contact with any constituent who wants to talk. My office will always have an open door. The top lesson I've learned from all my experience is that you can solve and resolve a lot when you really listen.
