MONROE - Five Illinois residents were arrested Tuesday morning after a police pursuit from the scene of a burglary at a Monroe business.
According to the Monroe police, a witness reported suspicious people leaving Radio Shack, 301 6th Ave. West, at 2:49 a.m. Tuesday. The witness saw five people, dressed in black with their faces concealed, running out of the Radio Shack carrying various items and entering two vehicles.
The witness followed the vehicles onto Wisconsin 11 while contacting police until law enforcement vehicles caught up and initiated a high-speed pursuit.
One of the fleeing vehicles was disabled near the intersection of Wis. 11 and County OK, when Green County deputies deployed spike strips to deflate the vehicle's tires. The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver, Alexis Marylinn Beyer, 18, Aurora, Illinois, was apprehended.
However, three passengers in Beyer's vehicle fled south into nearby farm fields and remained at large Tuesday, according to the police report. No identifying features of the three escaped suspects were reported.
The other vehicle continued into Rock County, where Janesville and Brodhead police, as well as deputies from Rock and Green counties, disabled it using spike strips. The driver, Diamond Rikki Madison, 21, Aurora, Illinois, and three passengers - Michael Lavell Bush, Jr., 25, Aurora, Illinois; Tynario Rashard Brown, 21, Aurora, Illinois; and Kneirah, V. Johnson, 18, Montgomery, Illinois - were all arrested.
Before their capture, occupants of the second vehicle threw a bag out of the vehicle window, which was eventually found to contain cell phones stolen from Radio Shack. The police report estimates that the phones represented a large amount of the $90,000 of merchandise stolen from the business.
Beyer and Madison, the vehicle drivers, will be charged initially with felony fleeing an officer, while Bush, Brown and Johnson will be charged with felony burglary.
The investigation into the burglary is ongoing, and the search for the other participants is ongoing.
