WOODFORD — Yellowstone Flint and Cap Club (YFC) is happy to be holding the 40th Annual Bloody Lake Rendezvous at Blackhawk Memorial County Park near Woodford. It’s a special rendezvous because it’s the 40th year and there was no public rendezvous in 2020. With covid restrictions lifting, and vaccine available, this entirely outdoor event is a healthy way to time travel back to Wisconsin pre-1840 when the fur traders, pioneers, Native Americans and colonial settlers mingled and engaged in friendly competition, commerce and socializing.

Historical re-enactors can join the encampment beginning on April 27. Modern vehicles are allowed in for the purpose of unloading gear, but then must be removed as the historical community takes shape. On Friday, April 30, the camp is open to school groups and scouts at reduced cost for the educational experience including demonstrations and activities. For more information contact Mike Parks at 608-778-8936 or message the club through the “Yellowstone Flint and Cap Club” Facebook page.

The general public is welcome to attend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2. In addition to the historical re-enactors, in period attire living in period lodges, there will be a wide variety of vendors of period appropriate goods and food.

There is live music played by participants, and hands-on activities like throwing tomahawk, or knife, or shooting a black powder rifle. All the participants enjoy answering questions, and sharing their love of history. More information is available on the Facebook page for YFC or “Bloody Lake Rendezvous.”
