NEW GLARUS - Four fire departments responded to a silo fire at about 10:15 a.m. Monday at N8867 County J.
New Glarus firefighters were called to the scene at about 10:15 a.m., Fire Chief Dave Anderson said.
The Monroe Fire Department brought out a ladder truck at about 10:30 a.m., and Blanchardville and Monticello fire departments brought extra tankers to the scene at about 11:15 a.m.
Anderson said the silage in the silo fermented and caught fire. He said silo fires fairly common. There isn't much the fire department can do with a silo fire, he said.
Firefighters put a lot of water on the smoldering silage, he said, to help extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 2:45 p.m. Monday.
