3 Monroe residents named to WSCI board

MADISON - Three Monroe area residents were named to the Wisconsin Specialty Cheese Institute's (WSCI) new Board of Directors at the group's March 12 membership meeting.

The seven-member board serves as the governing body for WSCI and represents the Institute's three primary categories of members, which include, manufacturer, marketer/processor and supplier.

The newly elected board members are, Luke Buholzer, Klondike Cheese, Monroe; Jeanne Carpenter, Wisconsin Cheese Originals, Madison; Shirley Knox, Maple Leaf Cheese, Monroe; Todd Martin, Johnson Industries, Windsor; Jim Natzke, Emmi Roth Kase, Monroe; Amanda Ritchie Carrick, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Madison; Tammy Welles, Northland Laboratories, Green Bay.

Buholzer, Welles and Ritchie Carrick will serve one-year terms; Carpenter and Knox two-year terms; and Martin and Natzke three-year terms. Elected to serve as WSCI officers are Buholzer, who continues in his position as president, and Knox, who was named secretary/treasurer.

Founded in 1994 in cooperation with the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association and the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, WSCI's mission is to promote and support the development of the specialty cheese industry in Wisconsin. The group's primary activities include to strengthen the position of current Wisconsin specialty cheese companies by identifying marketing opportunities and cost-sharing strategies; increase awareness of Wisconsin's specialty cheese industry through marketing, educational and promotional activities; help people interested in crafting specialty cheeses in Wisconsin learn what they need to get started; and serve as a resource for chefs, retailers, distributors and media looking for information on Wisconsin specialty cheeses.

There are now more than 80 companies that are members of the organization.
