3 hurt in two-car crash

MONTICELLO - Three people were injured and traffic on Wisconsin 69 was diverted for about an hour following a two-vehicle crash Monday.

The accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Monday on Wis. 69 at its intersection with County C. Green County Sheriff's deputies, along with the Monticello Police, Monticello Fire, New Glarus EMS, Monroe EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the scene.

Two drivers and a passenger were taken to hospitals. One person was taken by Medflight. Sgt. Britt Gempeler from the Green County Sheriff's Department said the extent of the injuries were unknown.

According to the sheriff's department report, a vehicle driven by Gregory P. Bettin, 43, of Monticello was eastbound on County C and pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle operated by Johnnie Walker, 55, of Freeport. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

A blue GMC Envoy XL SUV received extensive damage on both sides. A blue Toyota minivan received extensive front end damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Betting and Walker sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital, according to the sheriff's department. David O. Brown, 36, was injured and transported by Medflight to an area hospital.

All parties were wearing seatbelts and there was no airbag deployment in either vehicle.

Bettin was cited for failure to yield from a stop sign. Walker was cited for operating without a valid driver's license.
