MONROE — Transportation coordination involves human service agencies, transportation providers, consumer groups, and public officials working together to develop and improve services for individuals unable to provide their own transportation. Many of those served are not able to provide their own transportation as a result of disability, age or income. Transportation coordination provides more rides to more consumers through cooperation, communication and sharing resources, ensuring that transportation resources funded by local, state and federal programs are well-managed.

Federal transit law, as amended by the FAST Act (2015), requires that projects selected for funding under the Section 5310, Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program be:

1.  Must be included in a locally developed, coordinated public transit-human services transportation plan, and

2.  The plan must also be developed and approved through a process that includes participation by seniors, individuals with disabilities, representatives of public, private, and nonprofit transportation and human services providers and other members of the public.

Area residents are invited to attend the 2024-2028 Transportation Coordination Public Forum from noon to 2 p.m. on May 1 at the Green County Government Services Building Multi-Purpose Rooms, N3152 Wis. 81, Monroe.

Free lunch to be provided. If unable to attend in person, a zoom option is available at https://bit.ly/3Mtk0tR.

Anyone that uses public transportation in Green County is encouraged to attend. This includes the Monroe Cab, ADRC services and other public transportation. Feedback from users is vital to ensure the services available meet the needs of those who utilize public transportation.

This public forum is being put on in collaboration with the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC), Hodan Community Center, Southwest Opportunity Center, Southwest CAP; Wisconsin DOT and Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.

Those with questions or need help to sign up for free transportation can contact Morgan Kennison, Aging Programs Coordinator at 608-328-9499 or mkennison@gchsd.org.
