16-year-olds reported as runaways
News Brief with BKG

GRATIOT — A Gratiot girl and a boy from McHenry, Illinois, were reported as runaways after disappearing together.

Katie Heimann and Alex Rogers, both 16, are believed to be traveling together in Rogers’ black 2000 Ford Ranger with the Illinois license plate 1522910, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Heimann was last seen at about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 7. Rogers was last seen the night before.

As of Aug. 10, the pair was still missing.

Sheriff Reg Gill said his office has “been involved from the get-go” after Heimann’s father reported his daughter as missing. The Lafayette County deputy assigned to the case is working with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois.

An AMBER alert was not issued for Heimann or Rogers because they’re considered runaways, Gill said. AMBER alerts are emergency child abduction alerts for cases when a child is believed to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death.
