BRODHEAD - A 16-year-old Freeport boy crashed a stolen SUV into a dumpster in Brodhead after fleeing from Green County Sheriff's deputies early Tuesday, July 10.
Jared Alexander Trampel is being charged as an adult in Green County Circuit Court with a Class I felony count of fleeing an officer. He was also cited for speeding, violating his driver's license restrictions and reckless driving, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies tried to stop Trampel for speeding at 4:57 a.m. on Wisconsin 11 at Mount Hope Road in the Town of Spring Grove. The teen reportedly fled and crashed the green 2002 Ford Explorer into a dumpster in a parking lot near the intersection of 14th Street and West 8th Avenue in Brodhead. The SUV was severely damaged and towed.
Freeport Chief Deputy Jeff Davis says the 16-year-old stole the vehicle from a private driveway in Freeport, apparently at random.
The boy was wearing his seatbelt and reported no injuries.
He was released on a $1,000 signature bond, on the conditions that he live with his mother or father and not drive. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 26.
