MONROE - The city will be the new home for a 100-year-old cheese factory that will be moved from its location near Orangeville, Ill., by the end of June or early July, according to Mary Ann Hanna of the National Historic Cheesemaking Center.

A groundbreaking for the move and restoration of the cheese factory is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at the National Historic Cheesemaking Center, 2108 6th Ave.

Arnold Imobersteg is donating his farm's cheese factory to the center. Included in the donation is a copper kettle, a press table, wooden press bars and an original intake wheel.

The cheese factory, which is a 400-square-foot wooden shed with a brick chimney, was used by Imobersteg's parents to make cheese. The cheese was then shipped to Monroe.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
