MONROE — The School District of Monroe has released its updated COVID-19 plan for the remainder of the school year.
The released plan will remain active — and no stricter measures implemented — unless the 3-day rolling average for student positive cases is at or below 50 district wide, according to district officials Once the two-week rolling average for student positive cases is below 35, the district reverts back to the default plan.
Here are highlights of that plan:
● Masks will be optional, but strongly recommended for all students in all schools
● Masks are required on a school bus (federal requirement)
● Contact tracing will be conducted for all positive cases that are determined to be infectious while in school
● Notification of exposure will be provided to families on an individual basis
● Quarantine required for individuals that are COVID positive (10 days after symptoms started AND fever free for 24 hours with other symptoms improving)
● Quarantine for those within 6 feet of a COVID positive individual for 15 minutes or more when inside school facilities (no quarantine for outside)
● Quarantines for household contacts as ordered by Green County Health Department
● No whole-class quarantines unless a localized breakout is evident
● No quarantines for fully vaccinated individuals
● No quarantines for individuals wearing a mask during the time of expected exposure
The district also is implementing a “Test-to-Stay Program”:
● Available to ALL students identified as a close contact that are subject to quarantine
● Individuals will be required to wear a mask through day 7 of participation in this program

The plan and the escalated plan, if necessary are designed to “acknowledge the (Board of Education) desire to implement a mask only protocol,” officials said. The district also detailed its heightened plan should the number of positive cases surge.
