Photo was taken by Thomas Brusveen circa 1956, possibly the Streiff Grocery Store. John L. Streiff operated a grocery store in Monticello for many years. He was in the service in World War II, serving from Oct. 8, 1943 until Feb. 16, 1946, where he served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army in the Infantry Engineer Reconnaissance Tank Armored School. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theatre Service Medal. Following his discharge from the service, he re-opened his grocery store in a new location, serving there until retiring in 1973.
