Starting the new Borden milk condensery in Monticello, circa 1913. The company had contracted for 1,000 tons of ice for their condensery but didn’t, as yet, have an ice house to store it in. The ice blocks were harvested from Monticello’s Lake Staedtler, hauled down Railroad Avenue (East Lake Ave.) to the building site near the railroad tracks. When carpenters were available, an insulated ice house was built around the stack.
