Over the years both butter and cheese were made at the Martintown Creamery. The man in white on the right is butter maker Tom Devlin. The large building on the left is the ice house. Ice, which for this creamery was chopped from the Pecatonica River and hauled by bobsled, was needed to preserve butter in the days before refrigeration. In 1918 Robert Krebs, the father of Betty Heer who donated the photo, was the cheesemaker.
