Rhonda Elmer, Browntown, talks about her best friends Daisy May, a 2-year-old golden retriever, and Jake, a 5-year-old retriever-sled dog mix. 

Elmer said she has always had golden retrievers and when her last one died she decided to get Jake so it wouldn’t be so quiet around the house. Eventually, she brought home Daisy to add to the noise. 

Daisy recently gave birth to six puppies — one of which Elmer said she’ll be keeping.

Describe Daisy and Jake’s personalities. 

Daisy loves everybody. If I’m in the lounge chair, she’s on top of me. If I’m out with the horses, she’s right there with me.

Jake is a barker and a runner. He just likes to run. He ran away a while ago and Daisy followed and they ended up at Hawk’s Mill Winery.

What do you like to do together?

Daisy likes to go outside and visit the cats and the horses. We just mostly love to hang out together in the house. Daisy sometimes goes to work with me at the Electrolysis Center and does some therapy with kids at Valiant Mental Health. 

What has it been like having Daisy and Jake in your life?

Oh, I’ve never been without horses or dogs. I grew up on a farm nearby so I was always around animals. I can’t live without them. I even have six cats — three outside, three inside. I also have two horses.
