Mike Maurer talks about his best friend Archie, a 6-month-old boxer.

When one of Maurer’s boxers died in October, he decided to get Archie to keep his other boxer company. But when his other boxer died in January, Archie became an important part of the healing process for Maurer and his family. Maurer has come to like boxers for their good temperament and playfulness.

Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest someone for the series, contact Marissa Weiher, photographer, at photo@themonroetimes.com.

Describe Archie’s personality.

He’s pretty low key, pretty calm. He just doesn’t bark a lot unless need be. He’s a really laid back dog and he’s really helped with the healing after losing my other two dogs.

What do you and Archie like to do together?

He likes to play ball a lot. He goes pretty much everywhere with us. The owner said to me one day “just bring him in here,” so he comes to work with me (CT’s Firearms & Archery). He’s a bit spoiled.

What has it been like having Archie in your life?

It’s been, you know, just complete happiness.
