Kloie Huffman-Heins, 15, Albany, talks about her best friend Carmello, a 6-year-old registered paint horse. Carmello is from Texas and was a gift to Huffman-Heins from her grandparents. Huffman-Heins has been showing Carmello for two years.

Describe Carmello’s personality.

She’s a diva. She’s sassy. I’ve won a lot with her. I’ve shown her in the Wisconsin Paint Horse Club and she was number one in the zone for two years. She’s also kind of grouchy.

What do you and Carmello like to do together?

I keep a neck sweater on her to help beef her up. I also practice setting her up square. 

What has it been like having Carmello in your life?

Good. She taught me to show halter better. We’ve done a lot together.
