Deb Moe, Monroe, talks about her best friend Millie, a 1-year-old golden retriever.

Moe said for about the last 10 years, her husband, Rob, her son, Devan, and her daughter, Dany, had been trying to convince her to get a dog. She hated dogs and had never held one. She eventually gave in and agreed to look at a litter of puppies in Potosi. Millie was in a corner by herself. When Moe picked her up, Millie snuggled into Moe’s neck. Moe said at that moment, she pulled out her cash.

“That’s all it took,” Moe said.

Describe Millie’s personality.

She is queen of the house. We put her in obedience school not because she’s naughty, but for the socialization. She’s just really a “chillaxed” kind of dog. She is head of the household.

She’s a funny dog. She always has to have her tongue out and makes sure I’m there with her.

What do you and Millie like to do together?

We like to go on rides. We love Millie and mommy playtime at bedtime. If it’s just her and I, I’ll read out loud my Amish romance novels. She’s really enjoyed obedience school.

What has it been like having Millie in your life?

It has helped my anxiety 100 percent. She is my mid-life crisis to be honest. My kids are grown and in college and in the workforce and my husband works full time. The summer we got her we really connected. Before that, I was lonely and depressed.

She’s just been my shadow since I got her. I was scared of dogs and now I want another one.
