MONROE - Ten Green County Youth were recently selected to receive scholarships from the annual Dairy Youth Recognition Auction Scholarship program.

Receiving Dairy Youth Scholarships were Morgan Behnke, daughter of Roger and Lisa Behnke, New Glarus; Bryan Cramer, son of Bob Jr. and Nikki Cramer, Juda; Andrea McGowan, daughter of Rolly and Patty McGowan, Blanchardville; Jessica Schieldt, daughter of Greg and Michelle Schieldt, New Glarus; Christopher Voegeli, son of Bryan and Beth Voegeli, Monticello; Stephanie Wyss, daughter of Randy and Pam Wyss, Monroe; Tess Zettle, daughter of Brian and Kim Zettle, Juda; Brianna Wenger, daughter of Michael and Lois Wenger, Brodhead; Tyler Dorn, son of Dennis and Mary Kay Dorn, New Glarus; and Garrett Lederman, son of Dean Lederman and Dawn Lederman, Brodhead.

The scholarships are funded through proceeds garnered from the Green County Dairy Youth Recognition Auction, which is held in conjunction with the Cheese Auction conducted by the Foreign Type Cheesemakers Association at the Green County Fair. A total of $3,700 was distributed this year by the Dairy Youth Auction Committee.

Scholarships were awarded on the basis of information provided by the applicant that included their involvement in the dairy project, leadership skills they gained in 4-H and FFA and their future career goals. Applicants must have been a senior in high school or enrolled in secondary education to be eligible to apply for this scholarship that is an active dairy project member in 4-H or FFA. The scholarships do not require that youth go into a dairy-related career.

These youth will be formally recognized at the 2011 Green County Dairy Youth Auction on July 24, before the start of the sale. For more information on the Dairy Youth Recognition Auction Program in Green County, contact Mark Mayer at the UW-Extension Office at (608) 328-9440.
