Woman's Club members win at arts, crafts contest

MONROE - Monroe Woman's Club recently announced the winners of the arts/crafts contest at the Southern Prairies District.

Alice Kranig placed first for miscellaneous; Carla Hartwig placed second for miscellaneous; Melissa Schmidt-Kjerstad placed third for miscellaneous and first for paper and graphics; and Ila Duerst placed forst for machine quilting, wall hanging and hand quilting. In photography, Mary Schmidt placed first in the feature category and received honorable mention in the scenic category, and Sue Barrett place third in the natural history category.

At the state level, Hartwig placed first for natural items and third place for handknitting, Alice Kranig placed second for miscellaneous, Schmidt-Kjerstad placed third in paper and graphics, and Duerst placed second for machine quilting and first for handquilting and quilted wall hanging. Winners for short stories at the state level were Diane Vance, second place, and Donna Glynn, first place.
