MONROE - The School District of Monroe's art department held an art show for kindergarten through 12th grade in celebration of Youth Art Month from Tuesday, Feb. 25 through Saturday, March 8 at the Monroe Arts Center.
A closing reception was held on Saturday, March 8 at the Monroe Art Center to honor all artists.
Art teachers from all of the schools in the district selected artwork to be displayed. About 100 students were involved in the show.
The art show was broken into categories by age, and judged by former art teachers in the district. Kindergarten and first-grade winners were: Cameron Newcomer, first; Pammy Venden, second; and Rheaghan Schmelzer and Kylan Distworth, tying for third.
Second- and third-grade winners were: Marlies Brandli, first; Lexi Pena, second; and Olivia Levia, third
Fourth- and fifth-grade winners were: Delaney Wickstrum, Altezza Luchs and Madyson Hill, tied for first; Cecily Burch, second; and Christopher Barradas, third.
Sixth- through seventh-grade winners were: Naomi Niesman, first; Grace Sauncers, second; and Grace Schrank mand Cami Ganshert, tied for third.
Freshman and sophomore winners were Hannah Zweifel, first; Eva Prieve, second; and Ashley Whilhite and Carly Upmann, tied for third.
Junior and senior winners in 3-D art were: Tony Sink, first; Jenna Crook, second; and Kailey Reed, third.
Junior and senior winners in 2-D art were: Alison Groom, first; Sam Hose/Tenaya Mars, second; and Emily Frankowski/Katy Jordan/Kyle Olson, third.
Youth Art Month is an annual, month-long national observance to recognize the value of art education and to encourage public support for quality school art programs.
To help promote observances, The Council for Art Education, in cooperation with the National Art Education Association, coordinates Youth Art Month activities at the national, state, and local levels. Monroe art teachers coordinated the event at MAC to celebrate Youth Art Month locally.
