Wear teal for Sexual Assault Awareness Month
News Brief with BKG

MONROE — As part of the national 2019 “I Ask” Campaign, Sexual Assault Recovery Program calls on individuals and communities to commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month and show support for survivors by wearing teal, the symbol of sexual violence prevention.

By wearing teal, supporters can drive awareness around sexual violence prevention and the importance of consent, respect and supporting survivors. Asking for consent is a concrete and powerful way to ensure everyone feels safe and respected.

The “I Ask” campaign is an opportunity to normalize conversations about consent and to empower everyone to ask and respect the answer. The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and educate communities. SAAM events have been held including denim decorating for Denim Day. There are displays of jeans in the community. Some are displaying decorated jeans as a flag or garden flag at home as a way to support victims. SARP is selling T-shirts to raise money.

SAAM is organized nationally by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. The Sexual Assault Recovery Program serves Rock and Green Counties and provides services to the survivors and family of all forms of sexual violence, including past sexual assault, incest and sexual harassment.
