MONROE - The Lower Sugar River Watershed Association juried art event and fundraiser 'Seasons of the Sugar River - Nature of Water" is on exhibit at The Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th Street.

Artists were invited to explore all aspects and forms of water. As an important life force, water sustains, refreshes and inspires. The show encompasses the entire Sugar River Watershed from its headwaters in western Dane County to its confluence with the Pecatonica River in northern Illinois.

Guests at the opening reception Jan. 26 could vote for their favorite pieces of art in two categories.

The reception People's Choice for Best of Show for 2-diamensional work went to Jan Norsetter of Verona for her oil painting on board titled "Sugar River at Sunset Farms, Late Winter." She started the painting outside during the winter and finished it in the studio. The painting portrays the dried rust-colored leaves of the oaks that line a portion of the Sugar River. Norsetter is an avid Plein Air painter and teacher. She is also an award-winning Rosemaling painter. Her art can be viewed at http://norsetter.com/.

Jocelyn Kline of Monroe won the People's Choice for Best of Show 3-diamensional category with her hand-knitted garment titled "Nature Shrug." The inspiration for her piece came from a walk in the woods that revealed a partially frozen stream with leaf remnants of brown and gold swirling with the current. Kline is the owner and proprietor of Orange Kitten Yarns on the south side of the Square. She also creates jewelry and beaded jewelry.

Both Norsetter and Kline are members of LSRWA and have participated in previous shows.

Other Monroe participates include Jeanne Ausmus, Jan Douglas, Tina Duemler, Rich Hager, Kathy King, Jennifer Rikkers, Joan Stackpole and Helen Stauffer.

There is still time to vote for favorite 2-D and 3-D pieces. The show runs through March 30 at the Monroe Arts Center. MAC is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Check the website for additional information at https://www.monroeartscenter.com/.

The LSRWA is a nonprofit volunteer conservation organization based in Brodhead, dedicated to the care and enjoyment of water resources and to empowering citizens with experience and knowledge to steward land and water resources in the Lower Sugar River Watershed.

This is the fifth juried show at MAC that LSRWA has sponsored. The final show tallies for winners will be posted on LSRWA's website http://www.lsrwa.org/ after the show concludes.
