Walkers, riders pledge $8K to help county Habitat

NEW GLARUS - More 130 area walkers and riders gathered pledges totaling nearly $8,000 for Green County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) at the sixth annual Bike for Habitat, sponsored by Green County Habitat For Humanity in late May in New Glarus. The Bike 4 Habitat is held each year on the third Saturday in May and is the non-profit group's primary fundraiser of the year.

Local business sponsors chipped in another $8,000. Top platinum-level sponsors for this year's ride were Walmart, Colony Brands, Inc., Peace Lutheran Church and Thrivent for Lutherans of Green County.

Brenden Pittman, a sixth-year participant, acted as Grand Marshal for the event. Pittman and his team from the Swiss Church, New Glarus, helped raise more than $3,000. Other area churches also registered teams of riders.

All funds from the event will help GCHFH break ground this summer to build a home for a family in Blanchardville.

GCHFH is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry dedicated to building decent, affordable housing in partnership with those in need in Green County. Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity of Green County has worked with 16 families to build or remodel homes. Donations can be mailed to GCHFH; PO Box 398; Monroe, WI; 53566.
