MONROE - On Monday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Monroe Memorial Day program will include decorating soldiers graves, a parade and ceremony.
Veterans will begin the celebration at 6 a.m. by raising the flags on the Avenue of Flags. Volunteers will then decorate graves at 7 a.m. before heading to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312 for coffee and doughnuts.
All squad leaders should report to Tom Casey and Newt Neuenschwander at the "big monument" to assist people in finding their places. Grave decorating groups are:

All scouts and junior auxiliary will be assigned squads at 6:45 a.m. Monday. Boy Scouts meet with Jim Connors and the Girl Scouts meet with Lenae Ambrose at the memorial monument.
The parade units will assemble at 8:30 a.m. at Recreation Park. The parade, starting at 9 a.m., travels from the park to the cemetery. A ceremony follows in the cemetery at 9:30 a.m. with introductions by Chuck Drnek, American Legion Commander. Pastor Dan Krahenbuhl, Monroe Bible Church of Monroe, will give the invocation and benediction. Michael Demianiuk will give Logan's Orders and Ruben Arnold will recite the Gettysburg Address.
Musical selections will be played by the Monroe High School Band directed by Tom Schilt. George Wells will give the Memorial Day Address; roll call of deceased veterans of Green County will be made by Ernie Gebhardt, Jr.
The order for placing wreaths on Veterans Memorial is Daisy, Brownies, Junior, Cadet and Senior scouts; Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; American Legion Poppy Princess Emalee Fry and the Junior Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 84; Sons of the American Legion Post 84 and Advisor Ernie Gebhardt Jr; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 84 President Donna Douglas and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2312 President Sheryl Tschudy; American Legion 84 Commander Chuck Drnek and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312 Commander John Daehlin. Firing squad by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2312; and Taps by Monroe High School Band. Everyone is invited to a potluck meal at the American Legion Post Home at noon. There will be a guest speaker.
