MONROE - The Green County University of Wisconsin-Extension will be hosting several local government WisLine teleconference programs in January and February. The programs enable participants to discuss local government issues while meeting new people.
The event is open to local government officials and community members. Programs are free to those who register five days in advance to attend at the Green County UW-Extension conference room, 2841 6th St. Participants must pre-register by calling the Green County UW-Extension office at 608-328-9440.
Programs include:
"Tax Incremental Financing" from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. The presentation will provide a brief history and overview of TIF trends resulting from legislative changes, pitfalls, abuses and possible legislation including the work of the Legislative Council Study Committee on TIF. Discussion will also cover major changes to tax incremental financing over the last two legislative sessions which relate to distressed and severely distressed districts, multi-jurisdictional districts, districts in towns with cooperative plans, and 2013 Wis. Acts 183 and 193. Presenters are Al Runde and Mary Lou Clayton. Register by Friday to participate.
"Updating Your Comprehensive Plan" from 10:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 14. Wisconsin's comprehensive planning law requires that communities update their comprehensive plan at least once every ten years. This program will explore the variety of issues that arise as communities update, or think about updating, their comprehensive plans. Presenters are Rebecca Roberts and Brian Ohm. Register by Jan. 9 to participate.
"Wisconsin Legislative Preview" from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Representatives from Wisconsin's three major local government associations will provide a legislative preview including implications for local governments. Presenters are Mark O'Connell, Wisconsin Counties Association; Jerry Deschane, League of Wisconsin Municipalities; and Mike Koles, Wisconsin Towns Association. Register by Feb. 6 to participate.
