DARLINGTON - Private pesticide applicator training for 2016 will begin Feb. 8 for Grant and Lafayette counties.
Training and testing allow farm operators and employees to become certified to use restricted-use pesticides. Pesticides are classified as restricted-use when they potentially are hazardous to the applicator or the environment. Training provides information on safe handling and application of these pesticides, and applicator certification allows more options for insect and weed control in crops.
The training sessions will be held Feb. 8 in Belmont at the Belmont Convention Center, Feb. 9 in Darlington at the Town Bank, Feb. 10 in Dickeyville at the Community Center, Feb. 11 in Lancaster at the Youth and Ag Center and Feb. 12 in Boscobel at the River Inn.
These training sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Test-only sessions will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Town Bank in Darlington and Feb. 11 at the Youth and Ag Center in Lancaster. Participants can attend any session in either county.
Pre-registration is required with a $30 testing and certification fee for each participant. Study materials can be sent to participants who pre-register at least two weeks in advance by mailing in the $30 registration, payable to UWEX, indicating which training session they plan to attend. Lafayette County residents can send the fee to UW Extension, 627 Washington St., Darlington, WI 53530-4820, and Grant County residents can send their registration fee to UW Extension, 916 E. Elm St., Lancaster, WI 53813. Participants may also pre-register by stopping at the Lafayette or Grant County Extension offices from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
