MONROE - The Green County UW-Extension office announced Kristi Leonard, Blanchardville, as the 2013 Friend of Extension award at the recent Green County Master Gardeners Association annual meeting.

The award is annually presented to a local individual in recognition of their outstanding commitment to University of Wisconsin-Extension's educational outreach and research programs.

Leonard has been involved in a wide variety of UW-Extension programming efforts. As a member of Green County Home and Community Educators for more than 25 years, Leonard is currently serving as coordinator of their Wisconsin Bookworms Project and on the Green County Barn Quilts Committee. Leonard served as a tour guide for Cheese Days Farm Tours, and also served on the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days Executive Committee for the state's largest agriculture show that was hosted in Green County in 2007.

She served as 4-H Club general leader, Sewing Project leader, dairy superintendent, and also served as treasurer of the Green County Fair Meat Animal Auction. She has assisted with several Master Gardener community projects and is currently serving as the secretary of the Green County Master Gardeners Association.

"Kristi Leonard is one of the many outstanding people in Green County who help make our community educational programs a success. She is a tireless community volunteer and it was a true pleasure for me to present this award to her," said Mark Mayer, Green County UW-Extension department head. "Through her extensive dedication to our youth, agricultural industry, families and community programs, she's certainly made a difference and had a very positive impact on the lives of many Green County residents."
