DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society (LCHGS) will host several events in the coming weeks.
On July 20, the LCHGS July Board Meeting will be held on at 3 p.m. in the lower level meeting room of the Museum, 525 Main Street in Darlington. The public is welcome to attend.
The Quarterly Membership Meeting of the LCHGS will meet at 1 p.m. on Aug. 27. The meeting will be held in the lower level meeting room of the Museum at 525 Main Street in Darlington. Updates on all activities, and bylaws updates, to be presented. Informative program follows the membership meeting. The public is welcome to attend.
On Aug. 27, “Back to Union Grove” is a free program presented by LCHGS that will repeat the characters and stories told in the June Cemetery Walk at Union Grove Cemetery of Darlington. The program will be in the Lower Level Meeting Room at the Museum 525 Main St in Darlington at 1:30 p.m. The original program presented at the cemetery was on a very hot day. This will provide the fascinating stories in air conditioned comfort, with no walking. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 608-776-8340.
Finally, from Sept. 15-17, LCHGS will host “Night (and Day) at the Museum 2023”. This three day event will be held in Darlington’s Veterans Park on Main Street — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Museum will be open all weekend, historic re-enactment encampments of Fur Trade Era and Civil War will be present all weekend, a Quilting Bee will be held under canopy in the park and quilt show inside the museum, ancient artifacts, historic characters will stroll the park and engage visitors, food vendors including Darlington Optimist Cheese Curds and Lucky Cow, Live Music by Fever River String Band and The Blarneys on Saturday. The event is free.
