MONROE - The Swiss Heritage Series of the Turner Hall of Monroe will present its annual Swiss Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25 in the Grand Hall with the showing of "Sternenberg," a Swiss film from 2004.
The movie chronicles the story of Franz Engi, played by actor Mathias Gnädinger, who after 30 years of living abroad, returns to his hometown of Sternenberg in the canton Zürich. With only a few families with children left in the village, the school is about to be closed due.
Engi decides to save the school in an unusual way: He enrolls as a pupil, claiming he never had time to go to school as a child and is now exercising his right to an education.
As the "new kid in town," Engi sets the ball rolling to save the school, but also discovers he has an added reason to save the job of Eva, the school's teacher, played by actress Sara Capretti.
The film, which was nominated in 2005 as the best film for the Swiss Film Prize award, is in Swiss-German with English subtitles, and is approximately 88 minutes.
Although Swiss films are not rated for content, it would be comparable to a PG rating. Admission is a free-will donation; popcorn and beverages will also be available.
More information on these and other events in the Swiss Heritage Series is available at www.TurnerHallofMonroe.org.
