Turner Hall to host British-Swiss author

Best selling author in Switzerland, British-born Diccon Bewes, will appear at the Turner Hall Sept. 23.

MONROE — The personable and witty British-Swiss author Diccon Bewes will make a third visit to Turner Hall of Monroe, this time with a one-hour presentation titled “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Switzerland” at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23. Bewes will share unusual facts and stories about Switzerland, with time allotted for questions and answers after the presentation. 

The author of numerous books, including bestseller “Swiss Watching: Inside the Land of Milk and Money,” Bewes is also a contributor to swissinfo.ch, a ten-language news and information platform produced by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. His other books, written in English and then translated into German, include “Slow Train to Switzerland,” “Around Switzerland in 80 Maps,” “False Friends: 51 Ways to be Misunderstood,” and “How to Be Swiss.” Originally from Great Britain and now a Swiss citizen, Bewes worked as a travel journalist in London. 

Bewes’ appearance is being co-sponsored by Turner Hall’s Swiss Heritage Series and the Swiss Center of North America in New Glarus. The event will be held in Turner Hall’s Grand Hall, 1217 17th Ave., Monroe, and is free and open to the public. The Ratskeller Restaurant, in the lower level of Turner Hall, will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. serving a Swiss buffet. Reservations are appreciated by calling 608-325-3461.
