Tripp Stroud of Dodgeville announced Aug. 14 his intention to challenge Howard Marklein for the 17th District seat in the Wisconsin State Senate.

DODGEVILLE — Tripp Stroud announced his candidacy for Wisconsin State Senate at an event outside the Iowa County Courthouse in Dodgeville Aug. 14. Stroud intends to challenge Howard Marklein (R) in the election on November 8, 2022.

Stroud rejected the influence of special interest groups and divisive partisanship in Madison.  The best leaders, he stressed, are independent, decent, trustworthy, transparent, and have a strong sense of personal responsibility. They listen closely to voters and take principled stands even when it’s the tough thing to do. If elected next November, Stroud said he will model that kind of leadership and fight hard for all of southwest Wisconsin.

“It’s time to flip the script on Madison,” said Stroud. “Business as usual in the Capitol is not saving family farms. It’s not connecting us to modern internet. It’s not making healthcare more affordable. It’s not making it any easier to raise a family. The forces of big business, big tech, and the politics industry are holding us back. And they’re winning.

“Now’s the time to go on offense. I’m running to put families first, bring communities together, and stand for democracy and the rule of law. I’m running to reintroduce leadership, Wisconsin values, and forward-thinking ideas back into the State Senate. I’m running to chase the lobbyists and big corporations out of the Capitol. And I’m running to fight for the people of Southwest Wisconsin.”

In a press release, the Stroud campaign said its specific legislative priorities are:

●  Stamping out corruption in Madison and breaking the grip that massive corporations have on our economy and government.

●  Strengthening our small town workforce and building out capacity in our small towns for families to grow and thrive with modern internet, childcare options, and affordable healthcare.

●  Securing a future on the farm for the next generation of growers and producers

●  Protecting Wisconsin’s farmland, prairies, water, and forests through common sense conservation policies.

“I am so excited to bring that message to the State Senate. We are going to stand up for Wisconsin values. We are going to stand up for everyday people. We are going to stand up for big ideas, and for free and fair elections,” Stroud said.

Stroud holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from Marquette University. In 2016, he founded Trifecta General Counsel, a law firm specializing in health and health tech law. Currently, he lives in Spring Green with his wife Allison and two children, Duke and Zara.
