FREEPORT - The Borderline Arts Coalition, a regional volunteer collaboration of non-profit performing arts groups, announced the initiation of a joint project, "The Cheddar Curtain."

The show is written locally by four playwrights, John Buford, Orangeville, Ill.; Jay Donaldson, Freeport, Ill.; Frank McCann, Elizabeth; and Peter Woodruff, Elizabeth. The play will be directed and performed by four local community theatres: Back Street Players (Hanover, Ill.), Mighty Richland Players (Orangeville), Plum River Playhouse (Stockton, Ill.), and Winneshiek Playhouse (Freeport.)

The show is four separately performed plays. The only relationship among them is that they're written by local authors, the actors are local people, and all stories are about our area - our history, our culture, our foibles. Some of the scripts are comedic, some are nostalgic, and some are historical. This is the first time such collaboration has occurred. In large part, it's due to grants from the Freeport Art Museum, Freeport Community Foundation, Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, and Illinois Arts Council. The show involves cast members from each participating theater and will take place in the following places on the following dates. This also is a fund raiser for each organization.

• March 12, Masonic Lodge, 119 Main St., Stockton, Ill. (815) 947-3701
