MONROE - Volunteer tax-aide counselors, trained and certified by the I.R.S., will provide one-on-one assistance for older, low-to-moderate income people for 2012 tax returns.

The volunteers will help on various tax forms including 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ with schedules A, B, C up to $5,000 expenses and D, as well as Wisconsin tax forms 1, 1A, WI-Z and the Homestead Tax Credit Claim.

Counselors can determine if there is a filing requirement or if people are eligible for any credits that may be applicable.

People who use the service should bring copies for their 2011 tax returns, 2012 W-2s, 1099 forms and Social Security earnings (SSA-1099) and other relevant materials for 2012. A copy of the 2012 property tax statement and/or a rent certificate for 2012 signed by a landlord is also needed.

The service is free and will begin in February at various locations throughout Green County.
