MONROE - "One World, Many Stories," the theme for this year's summer library program continues through July at the Monroe Public Library. The library's program includes reading incentive opportunities for all ages, babies to teens. Also on the calendar are entertainment events and hands-on workshops.

Youth Services Librarian, Kris Ault, reminds readers and parents that it is not too late to for youngsters to read for fun and prizes this summer.

"Teachers and librarians agree that reading for fun during the summer is the best way for young students to keep their reading skills at grade level," Ault said in a release. "We have also seen some incredible improvement in reading levels because we allow children to choose their own reading fun. Whatever they choose to read for a few minutes each day is acceptable."

Children from birth to age 18 may continue to sign up for the Monroe Public Library's programs. Early Birds for babies and toddlers, Reading Explorers for children age three to five, Globe Hoppers for grade school age children, and the teen You Are Here program all offer reading rewards.

At 1:30 p.m. July 13, "One World, Your Story" will feature an opportunity for budding writers entering grades first to fifth to create their own illustrated story. The stories will be collected and put into a book for the library's collection.

Summer Family Fun Nights in July will offer listeners of all ages a chance to listen to stories from around the world. The Anansi stories from Africa and the Caribbean will be featured at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, and the local chapter of the Sons of Norway will be sharing their Norwegian heritage at 6:30 p.m. July 12.

The Monroe Public Library is located at 925 16th Ave., Monroe. Parking is available in the lot behind the building or the municipal parking ramp across the street.
