Students to compete in oratorical contest

MONROE - Area students under the age of 19 who have not graduated from high school or the equivalent can apply to compete in the Monroe Optimist International Oratorical Contest at 7 p.m. March 7 at the Union Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Contestants will present a four- to five-minute speech on the topic of "How my best brings out the best in others." Prizes of $150, $100 and $50 will be awarded to the top three speeches, and the top two winners will advance to the Zone level of the competition.
