MONROE - Students of the Monroe High School Business Law class and their teacher attended a Supreme Court oral argument Nov. 1 as part of the award-winning Court with Class educational program. After, the group visited the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Pupils learned about the Supreme Court by observing an oral argument in person in the Supreme Court Hearing Room at the state Capitol. Prior to attending the oral argument, students learned about the history of the court, examined the role of the court in Wisconsin law and studied a synopsis of the case they heard in court.

During the oral argument, lawyers on each side of a case made their strongest legal points while justices asked questions. Students also met with the Deputy Marshall to better understand his role within the court.

Since 1996, thousands of students have benefited from the Court with Class program, co-sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin. Court with Class runs from September to April each year.

Following the oral argument, students returned to Monroe to meet with Officer Quinn of the Green County Sheriff's Department.

The group learned about the responsibilities and duties of the County Sheriff's deputies, visited one of the court rooms and toured the Green County Jail.
