WHITEWATER - Nicholas Walker, a senior psychology major from Monroe, has been selected as a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater McNair Scholar.
The program prepares first-generation, multicultural and other underrepresented students for graduate and doctoral studies and future careers as university professors. Each student is assigned a faculty member within their major as a mentor to offer guidance and resources to encourage research and critical thinking.
After students are selected, they conduct research with their faculty mentor, and then have the opportunity to present at a series of conferences, including UW-Whitewater Undergraduate Research Day. During the following summer, scholars are required to apply to an out-of-state summer research internship to further their studies.
