MONROE - Billed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as the city's premier classic rock band, "Stranded in Iowa" will make its first appearance in Wisconsin this week when it takes the stage at Monroe Main Street's July 9 free Concert on the Square.
The concert's main sponsor is Glanbia Nutritionals of Monroe, which employs the band's keyboardist and backup singer, Billie Tessendorf, who lived in Monroe for 10 years and was active in many community events before moving to Cedar Rapids. "Stranded in Iowa" is known throughout Iowa for its classic 70s-90s rock music.
The concert will be held rain or shine from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and those attending should bring their own chairs. In the event of inclement weather, signs will be posted on the Square, directing audiences to either Turner Hall or Monroe Middle School. Concert "box lunches" will be available for sale at Café Claudeen, Turner Hall and Garden Deli. Snacks and treats will also be available at Ruf's Confectionery. All are located on or near the Square. The Green County Humane Society will also open its beer tent for the concert.
More about Stranded in Iowa is available at the band's Web site strandediniowaband.com, including its play list.
"We're really excited about bringing this band to Main Street's free concert series," said committee chairman Karen Stollenwerk, who added the program is grateful for Glanbia's substantial contribution as well as donations made by dozens of concert supporters.
