MONROE — One in four adults over the age of 65 fall each year. Falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults, but they are often preventable. Those that want to maintain their independence, gain confidence, and reduce risk of falling should take part in the Stepping On workshop.
This seven-week program, running from the end of April to the beginning of June at the Brodhead Memorial Public Library, is designed for older adults who live independently and are looking to improve their balance, strength, and confidence. Led by trained facilitators, this evidence-based workshop focuses on practical strategies to reduce falls and maintaining one’s independence.
Participants will learn from guest experts on topics such as:
● Simple exercises to improve strength and balance
● Home safety modifications to prevent falls
● The role of vision and proper footwear in stability
● Medication management to reduce dizziness or side effects
● How to get back onto your feet the right way if you do fall
The workshop provides a friendly and supportive group setting, where participants can share experiences and build confidence in making small lifestyle changes that have a big impact. Spots are limited. The deadline to register is April 11.
